It is best to reserve a table for lunch or dinner because it is perhaps the best French restaurant in town, and many residents and visitors are anxious to try the dishes. Visiting with Joseph Hadad, the well-known Executive Chef of Casa Vernescu, I tried to get a sugestion of a possible meal. Almost impossible, because he loves all of his creations. For these he uses his training, creativity, and, like in fashion industry, some ideas from the international trends. For this year's new creations he used some of his vacation in Brussels as a working holiday. He finally agreed to tell us what he came back with.
One of the newest menus at Casa Vernescu with start with a special appetizer – Shrimps Souffle with crème Sauce and Cherry Tomatoes stuffed with Spinach. Delicious! For the main course you might try Veal Fillet Carpaccio Bullets stuffed with Basil served with Parmesan and Olive Oil, or the exceptional Duck Breast with Goose Liver served with fresh and dried Figs. The food goes perfectly with the best Romanian wines. All the ingredients are fresh, from Romanian or foreign markets and are prepared in Casa Vernescu's 'laboratory'. While the Romanian regulars already know the quality of the restaurant, many foreigners are really impressed with what they taste here. A good Chef accounts for perhaps 80% of a satisfied client, the rest is accounted for by the service and the special atmosphere of Casa Vernescu.
(Bucharest, What, Where, When - December 2001 - January 2002)
For stepping in a New Year, the well-known casino and restaurant in Bucharest is preparing many surprises for its visitors looking for joy and luck.
The small palace on Calea Victoriei is ready for the holiday: fairytale lights, decorated fire trees, Santa Clauses climbing on the chimneys, in conclusion an atmosphere full of joy.
The children for "Sfanta Maria" Orphanage will deeply feel this joy on December 23rd, when the sweet presents offered by the hosts, as well as the show with puppets and clowns will bring a not hoped smile on their faces, too early sad.
The gifts' caravan is ready to begin, the whole December being a time for joy at Vernescu.
The Christams menu, for example, is a delicious gift, especially prepared by Joseph Hadad, the Executive Chef of the famous 5-star restaurant. You are welcomed with traditional specialties (smoked meats, mosaic salami, blood pudding), flavoured by all necessary spices, plump pancake and force-meat rolls in cabbage leaves, as well as with the cosmopolite paté de fois gras, turkey medallion, pickled carp, trembling jellies and faultless soufflés. All is sprinkled with drinks for frozen souls. Well, in vino veritas…

"Hallo-(ween)!" told us the hosts from Casa Vernescu last Tuesday, when they organized a scary evening (let say…), where big and not big names of our society world participated, some picturesque characters - some with masks in season, others with their permanent masks (sic!), ready for a cosmopolite party in the famous restaurant and casino in Bucharest.
The smart palace on Calea Victoriei was transformed for one evening in Hollywood studio, where realistic Morticia met us with fresh blood in cups (cocktail Bloody Mary, of course), and the king of the vampires was played by a mime with sharp fangs and criminal intentions…
The whole atmosphere was…thrilling; the cold shiver of the castles haunted by the American brothers of Dracula took us where we entered the hall decorated with good and bad witches, light-pumpkins, hay, spider-webs, black and orange balloons, skulls and masks. The strange feelings have been completed by specific musical themes from Twin Peaks and Thriller.
The star of the evening was, not doubtfully, Bianca Brad, dressed in the sweetest pumpkin, merry and of course wanted for the pies of some gray haired men…(What a pity that she couldn't stay longer; the shootings involve sacrifices…).
An active presence of the society meetings, Gianina Corondan, funny and smiley as we all know her, dressed as a TV anchor and stayed more "G Hours" at the party in Casa Vernescu, asking to be scared. (We did it!).
A mini fashion festival would be organized, because Eli Laslean (dressed as Lady in Red) and Rita Onisca Muresan (with a generous décolletage and a faultless black suit, together with the due husband, also generous, but not low-cut) were present and had good time at Vernescu.
A master of the culinary art, Joseph Hadad, the well-known Executive Chef of Casa Vernescu Restaurant, created for all guests in season specialties, from Grawaluxe Salmon, Waldorf Salad, eggs filled with paté de fois gras, Moroccan salad, pork fillet with mushrooms and the traditional force-meat rolls in cabbage leaves and sour cream, assorted smoked meats (waiting for Christmas…) and the famous pumpkin pie.
An inspired musical dessert, Oana Sarbu sang together with Petre Geambasu Band Latin music and evergreens. Geambasu jr., Calin, also sang, full of life at his 25 years, celebrated right in that night.
"Trick or treat" is said on Halloween. We also went for it at Casa Vernescu, where, like in every topnotch house, we were treated like kings, were scared enough to have fun, we enjoyed the party in an American style and we have stayed until we left…
